Thunder on the Beach: Cocoa Beach Boat Races

“The 2015 Super Boat International offshore racing season kicks off with the 6th Annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach Super Boat Grand Prix in Port Canaveral, Fla., on the weekend of May 15-17.”

The activities will be officially kicked-off this Thursday, May 14, with a pre-event party to meet the teams. The main event is May 17, Race Day, with races at 12:00pm and 2:00pm, running from Lori Wilson Park to the Cocoa Beach Pier. “Thunder On Cocoa Beach Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix has grown immensely in popularity and is now one of the most popular and attended offshore boat racing events on the Super Boat International race circuit. The event draws some of the top race teams in the world such as Miss Geico, Broadco and Stihl as well as the Space Coast’s own hometown teams Warpaint and Perdition.”

It looks like this year’s races may be a little damp: forecasts for the weekend indicate a chance of scattered rain. But as the locals say, if you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes. If you plan on watching the races, don’t forget your sunscreen; even if it is overcast you can still get sunburned!
