Today is the 1st Day of Fall, and the Autumn Equinox. The Autumn Equinox marks the first official day of Fall based on the Sun’s relative position to Earth; on the Equinoxes the Sun crosses the equator and marks the beginning of changes in the length of daylight hours.
Today is also the opening night for two new shows at the historic Cocoa Village and Titusville Playhouses. The Cocoa Village Playhouse will open Beauty and the Beast, while the Titusville Playhouse will open The Addams Family.

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Brevard County’s local acting talent will bring us The Fox on the Fairway in Melbourne, and The Little Mermaid in Titusville. The Fox on the Fairway is “a tribute from Ken Ludwig to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, where common elements include young love fighting for survival and jaunty sporting themes.” The show will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Melbourne Civic Theatre. At the other end of central Brevard, The Little Mermaid will take you on a “journey under the sea to a magical underwater kingdom, with the beautiful young mermaid Ariel who longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above.” This adaptation will take elements from the 1989 Disney film, and will show at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
