This Friday, Surfing Santa returns to Cocoa Beach with an early arrival on Black Friday. The annual event brings hundreds of surfers and spectators to the Space Coast each year in support of the Florida Surf Museum and local charity Grind For Life. Over the years, Surfing Santas has raised over $20,000 for the charity, which helps individuals and families fighting cancer. The Florida Surf Museum preserves the history of Florida’s unique surfing culture with exhibits containing documents, images, and surf boards.
The event will begin at 1:00p.m. on November 25 at Alan Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach. Spectators will see Santa-a mystery professional surfer-surf ashore and will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Santa and get a complimentary 4×6 print. Unlike the wildly popular Christmas Eve event, surfers and spectators are asked to enjoy the event from the beach. Visitors can expect warm, breezy, partly cloudy conditions according to the local forecasts.
For event details, visit the event page on Facebook or the Surfing Santas website. For more information about the Grind For Life charity, visit the official website. Cocoa Beach’s annual charity event, Surfing Santas, is this Thursday (Christmas Eve)! Every year, hundreds of participants flock to downtown Cocoa Beach in festive costumes for a day of surfing and fun. The event is sponsored by The Florida Museum of Surf and John and Mary Hughes, with enormous community support from local businesses like Coconuts, as well as Ron Jons, and proceeds are donated to Grind for Life, a charity that provides resources for individuals battling cancer.
This year’s weather is shaping up to be warm-as high as the mid 80s-and breezy with a few clouds, and the surf forecast reports expected waves in the 3-5 foot range. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and continues throughout the day. For more information about the Surfing Santas event, visit their website or Facebook page.
