This past Sunday, December 6, the United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Orbital ATK joined forces to bring critical supplies to the crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The successful launch comes more than a year after Orbital’s last attempted launch in October 2014. After two unsuccessful resupply missions by competitors, the Cygnus spacecraft will bring much needed supplies and tools, a life sciences lab, several experiments, and Microsoft Hololens sets. The launch made for some stunning pictures, including one taken as the craft ascended through the sunset by Scott Kelly, an astronaut aboard the ISS on a year long mission. In addition to the supplies and science on board, the rocket will bring holiday gifts to the station’s crew. The launch was the ULA’s final launch of the year; moving on to next year, the ULA has 16 planned launches, including 12 from Cape Canaveral.
