SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will return to flight just after 8:40 p.m. this Saturday, December 19. After a disastrous attempted launch in June, when the mission ended abruptly in an explosion that destroyed the rocket and cargo, December’s launch comes just days after Orbital ATK’s return to flight launch of their Cygnus rocket. This mission, the Falcon 9 will be using a new engine configuration to deliver 11 commercial satellites to orbit for Orbcomm. The satellites, part of the OG2 communications array, will bring improved messaging, navigation, and tracking capabilities for machine-to-machine communications. The weather forecast indicates a cool and breezy but mostly sunny day, beautiful launch weather.
