This Wednesday morning, SpaceX will be sending an Atlas V rocket to space carrying a new GPS satellite, the GPS IIF-10. The satellite will be the 10th in an array of Air Force GPS satellites; the IIF series of GPS satellites are an important facet of U.S. national security, providing improved navigational accuracy, boosting military signals, and assistance with search and rescue operations. Additionally, the IIF series helps sustain the current GPS networks, or constellations.
The weather forecast indicates Wednesday will start off partly cloudy before scattered afternoon thunderstorms begin to roll in. The launch should be visible to most of northern and central Brevard county.
