Launching this Saturday evening, the United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V will be carrying a new weather satellite to orbit for NOAA. After several delays, the launch is currently scheduled for 5:42p.m. from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. The satellite, called GOES-R is one of four new satellites in this family of satellites built to extend the array’s functional lifespan. The local weather report forecasts perfect viewing weather for the launch: warm, sunny, and breezy. Viewers should have clear views from the surrounding Space Coast area or from the Space Center’s designated viewing areas.
For more information about viewing the launch, visit the Kennedy Space Center’s visitor website; read more about the GOES-R satellite array on the GOES-R webpage.
