Tomorrow, just after noon, the United Launch Alliance (ULA) will be launching the eleventh installment of the GPS-IIF array aboard an Atlas V rocket. The launch will be the ULA’s third for the IIF system. The satellite is one of twelve Air Force global positioning satellites designed to expand the existing GPS networks, or “constellations”. The IIFs will improve “accuracy for navigation, … military signal and assists with commercial aviation and search and rescue operations.” (KSC) 2015 has been a busy year for Space Coast launches, and will continue to be through the year’s end, including another ULA Atlas V launch, Orbital’s Cygnus rocket, and SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
